アイルランドの地方での光ファイバー網の構築促進と運営を行っています。
6月23日、「地方部へのネットワーク導入の際の機器供給元として、フィンランドのノキアを選定した」と発表した。
これはアイルランド政府が2012年に発表した「国家ブロードバンド計画」の一環。
アイルランドの全ての人々が高速通信にアクセスできるようにすることを目的に、民間事業者・サービスの提供が不十分な地域をカバー。
- オンライン診療などのスマートヘルス、
- スマート農業や
- デジタル学習
などの分野での機会を提供。
同計画を実行に移すため、政府は2019年11月にNBIと契約を締結。
4年間のうちに全国の敷設率を9割超とするとしている。

Nokia wins FTTH contract for half a million rural homes in Ireland

The company building Ireland’s rural broadband network has awarded Nokia the contract for the 540,000-home system.
National Broadband Ireland (NBI)
will be a wholesale-only operation, providing connectivity to all retail operators across the country, at first through a series of 300 broadband connection points (BCPs), and then by fibring up half a million homes across rural Ireland.
Peter Hendrick, CEO of NBI, said:
“We believe that better broadband networks promote social progress, equality and sustainability. With equal access to local, national and global opportunity, every person, community and organisation in Ireland will be empowered to achieve more.”
