Retail Vacancy in NYC:

On September 25, New York City Scott Stringer Accounting Auditor announced Retail Vacancy in New York City.

The vacancy rate of retail stores in NYC in 2017 increased by 0.4 points from 2016 (5.4%) to 5.8%.

This is 1.5 times the 2007 level (4.0%) before the global financial crisis, the highest level in the last 10 years.

Vacant store area in 2017:

11.8 million square feet, about 2.1 times that of 2007 (5.6 million square feet).

Vacancy rate by district:

Staten Island: (10.8% increase by 2.2 points)

Queens Ward: (6.4%, up 1.1 points from the previous year),

Bronx Ward (6.3%, 0.7 points down from the previous year),

Manhattan Ward (5.2%, up 0.4 points from the previous year),

Brooklyn (5.1%, up 0.3 points from the previous year)
