ある時、怪しげなる金貸し・スカピネリが現われた。

スカピネリは、パルドウインに多くの金を与えた。

パルドウインは、その金で今孃マルギットと恋仲になれた。

鏡に映つた自分の影：

しかし、その代償として、パルドウインは「鏡に映つた自分の影」を持ち帰った。

「金貸し・スカピネリに渡した自分の影」が、いたるところに現われる。

パルドウインの破滅の道：

遂に、パルドウインは、哀れな最期を遂げる。
