海上自衛隊：
海上自衛隊の最新鋭イージス艦「はぐろ」が完成。
引き渡し式が3月１９日、行われた。
イージス艦８隻体制：
「はぐろ」就役で、弾道ミサイル対処能力が飛躍的に向上する。
２０１３年に閣議決定：
「防衛計画の大綱」が掲げた、イージス艦・８隻体制が整った。
はぐろは佐世保基地（長崎県佐世保市）に配備される。
2020年３月、イージス艦「まや」は、既に配備を完了。
はぐろの最新装備システム：
- 早期警戒機などと、
- 巡航ミサイルや敵戦闘機の位置情報を、リアルタイムで共有する、
- 共同交戦能力（ＣＥＣ）システムを装備。
更に、「日米共同開発の迎撃ミサイル・ＳＭ３ブロック２Ａの発射能力」も有する。

JMSDF commissions second Maya-class guided-missile destroyer
The Maya class is 5 m longer than the service’s Atago-class destroyers.
Each ship of the class
is equipped with the Aegis Baseline J7 ballistic missile defence (BMD)-capable weapon system.The Baseline J7
is supported on the ships by the Lockheed Martin/Raytheon AN/SPY-1D(V) phased array radar and the Northrop Grumman AN/SPQ-9B X-band (NATO I-band) (8–12.5 GHz) high-resolution fire-control radar.The Maya class
is also equipped with the US-developed Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) system,which enables each of the destroyers to act as part of a wider ‘grid’ of sensors and weapon platforms that allow other CEC-equipped ships and military aircraft
– such as Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning & control (AEW&C) aircraft –
to share surveillance and targeting information.
With this capability, the ship
is expected to better counter threats such as those posed by North Korean ballistic missiles.
