According to Tilt Five, the new game board has completely passive tracking.
“The retroreflective dots in the border are what the head tracking camera looks for,” said a company representative.
There are infrared LEDs around the camera in the glasses, which then fire down to the board and light it up
“so that the infrared tracking camera can see the dot pattern in any lighting condition.”
This uses an AR tech called far-eye projection, whereas other AR headsets like HoloLens and Magic Leap uses near-eye projection that utilizes waveguide displays.
