Saudi Arabia’s Capital Market Authority (CMA) issued a commencement letter to Citigroup Inc. The letter formally permits the U.S bank to start an investment banking business in Saudi Arabia.
In April 2017, Citigroup received a capital markets license.
In December 2017, Citigroup hired Majed Al Hassoun to head investment banking in Saudi Arabia.

Central Huijin Investment Limited, a major part of the China Investment Corporation (CIC), held talks with Anbang Insurance Group Company.
Like HNA Group, Anbang Insurance was on a global buying spree in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
