AIST: Identifying odors in real time – ‘bulk response’ gas sensor

– Development of a sensor array that can identify odors –

Features

Identify specific odors among interfering gases present in the room

Detect gas derived from expiration and body odor under simulated room gas

Realized by installing a “bulk response type” gas sensor that is not easily affected by humidity

Overview

We developed a sensing technology that can distinguish a specific odor even if interfering gas is present inside the room.

Small ceramic sensor array element:

In addition to the four kinds of human-derived odorous gases, it is possible to distinguish unpleasant odors including body odor, and the concentration can also be identified.

Compact and portable,

At any place such as in a house or in a car

Identify odors in real time

Sensor development is required.

◆ Human-derived four types of gas

Ketones,

Nonanal,

Acetoin,

Decane

The former is an exhalation of diabetic patients

The latter is an exhalation of lung cancer patients

There are reports that it is contained a lot.

from now on,

A technique for selectively removing unpleasant odor in conjunction with ventilation, and the like.

Combined with machine learning, we will develop indoor air quality measurement technology in real space and aim for commercialization around 2022.
