Senior researcher Shigeyuki Yokoyama of RIKEN Yokoyama structural biology laboratory and collaborative research group * of team leader Ken Sakamoto team leader of non-natural amino acid technology research team * Life Science Technology Research Center , We have succeeded in the preparation of the antibody “Variabody” with diverse functionality by specifying the site useful for chemical modification of antibody drug [1] using artificial amino acid. In the future, Variabody can be expected to contribute to the development of antibody medicine as a new form that broadens the medical and industrial applications of antibodies. RIKEN and Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. have jointly filed a patent on Variabody. The results of this research will be posted on the online version (dated 20th July: Japan time on July 21) prior to publication of the science magazine “Bioconjugate Chemistry” in the United States. 横山構造生物学研究室の横山茂之上席研究員とライフサイエンス技術基盤研究センター非天然型アミノ酸技術研究チームの坂本健作チームリーダーらの共同研究グループ※は、人工アミノ酸を用いて抗体医薬[1]の化学修飾に有用な部位を特定し、多様な機能性を持つ抗体「Variabody」の作製に成功しました。今後、Variabodyは抗体の医療・産業応用をより広げる新しい形式として、抗体医薬の開発に貢献するものと期待できます。なお、理研および協和発酵キリン株式会社は、Variabodyに関する特許を共同出願しています。 本研究成果は、米国の科学雑誌『Bioconjugate Chemistry』掲載に先立ち、オンライン版（7月20日付け：日本時間7月21日）に掲載されます。 理化学研究所
