Mexico car production: production in 2018 · slight decrease compared to the previous year However, exports are record high

National Statistical and Geographic Information Institute (INEGI):

January 10, announced the production, export, and sales statistics of the full year 2018 car (excluding large bus and truck).

Overseas exports:

It has increased by 6.0% from the previous year to 3,449,201 units (see Table 3).

Production volume:

Decreased by 0.6% to 3,908,139 units for the first time in nine years (see Table 1).

Production volume by company

Nissan declined 8.1% from the previous year,

General Motors increased by 3.6%, the Nissan who was the leader of the previous year was reversed for the first time in 8 years.

Kia (modern models also produced) was good. It surpassed Ford at 294,600 units, up 33.0% from the previous year, and ranked fifth in Japan.

Toyota (up 27.1%),

Mazda (5.5% increase) · Production is strong,

Honda’s flood damage caused a drastic decrease of 29.5% from the previous year (see Table 2).

Good exports to the US

In terms of exports, exports to the United States maintained a strong 9.9% growth, mainly SUVs and pickup trucks, and led the overall export growth (see Table 3).

74.4% of all exports are for the US.

It is increasing substantially in almost all destinations (Latin America, Europe, Asia, etc.)

In the previous year, the export volume of VW series · Audi company (exported to 43 countries / regions around the world)

It is affected by being unpublished (excessive growth rate than actual: it is classified as “Other” in Table 3)
