March 2020: Sales volume
Mexico’s vehicle sales (excluding large buses and trucks) in March 2020 were 87,517 units, down 25.5% year-on-year.
February 2020: Sales volume
It was 104,328 units, an increase compared to the same month of the previous year since May 2017, and it was expected to be strong thereafter (see article on March 13, 2020)
However, in March, sales fell sharply due to the spread of new coronavirus infection.
Breakdown of domestic sales by manufacturer
GM: 16,528 units decreased 9.6% year-on-year,
VW: 11,919 units decreased 19.5% year-on-year,
Kia: 6,995 units decreased 16.8% year-on-year
Japanese manufacturers:
Nissan: 17,520 units decreased 31.1% year-on-year,
Toyota: 8,282 units decreased by 7.2% year-on-year,
Honda: 3,787 units decreased 48.7% year-on-year,
Mazda: 3,432 units decreased 43.1% year-on-year,
It fell in all manufacturers, including other foreign-affiliated manufacturers.
In January-March 2020, the number of units was 296,677, down 10.9% year-on-year.
Production and exports also decreased: (See Tables 1 and 2)
Domestic production in March was 261,805 units, down 24.6% year-on-year.
In addition, the number of vehicles exported in March decreased by 11.9% to 285,075 units.
Even from January to March 2020, both production and export decreased.
