ASEAN: New car sales in May, down 70% : Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia

JETRO collects from automobile statistics (Note) of each country

4 major ASEAN countries in May (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam)

May sales results:

The total number of vehicles sold was 67.0, a decrease of 85,500 units from the same month the year before.

Although it picked up from the 48,934 units in April, it remains at one-third the level of the previous year and remains sluggish.

Total from January to May:

It was 727,858 units, down 41.0% from the same period last year.

Malaysia

Malaysia had 22,960 vehicles in May, a significant recovery from 141 in April.

Indonesia

It decreased by 95.8% to 3,551 units, falling below 10,000 units for the second consecutive month.

Car production in the four major ASEAN countries:

Looking at the car production in the four major ASEAN countries,
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the average of May decreased by 60% to 100%,
A total of 70,948 units decreased by 78.9% from the previous year (see attached table 2)
The total for January-May was 1 million 8,004 units, down 39.4% from the same period of the previous year.
