Malaysia: New car sales in the first half of 2020: 41.1% decrease from the previous year

Malaysia Automobile Federation (MAA): (See Appendix Table 1)

On August 16th, it announced the number of new vehicles sold in the first half of 2019 (January to June), including passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

New car sales in the first half of 2020:

The number was 174,675 units, a significant decrease of 41.1% from the same period of the previous year.

Production volume:
It decreased by 41.7% to 166,049 units.

By manufacturer: (See Appendix Table 2)

Perodua, the second national car maker that holds 40% of the market share, decreased by 39.1% to 74,170 units.

Proton, the first national car, fell by 14.8%.

Foreign-affiliated manufacturers, including Japanese cars, also fell below the same period of the previous year.

Japanese car:

Toyota rose to 18,199 units, ranking third by manufacturer, but fell by 41.8%.

Honda came in 4th place, down 61.3%.
