US Motor Intelligence: 2019 first half sales: top 6 companies, first half year-on-year decrease

US: Second quarter 2019: (April to June)

New car sales in the second quarter of 2019 (April to June) decreased 1.5% from the previous year to 4,431,851.

US: First half of 2019: (Jan-June)

New car sales in the first half of 2019 (April to June) also decreased by 2.0% from the previous year to 8,438,518 units (see the article on July 16, 2019)

Sales volume by manufacturer: (see table)

In the first half and the second quarter, the sales figures of the top six companies were negative compared with the previous year.

GM: In addition to the “Cruise”, the large pickup “Silverado” etc. decreased.
Ford: “Focus” and “Explorer” etc. decreased.
Toyota: Sales of SUV (CUV) “UX” and “ES” increased, but passenger cars such as “Prius” and “Corolla” decreased.
FCA: Jeep brands such as CUV “Cherokee” and SUV “Wrangler” decreased.
Honda: CUV “passport”, hybrid “Insight” grew. “Accord”, “fit” decreased.
Nissan: Sales of CUV “Rogue” and small passenger cars “Maxima” decreased.
Hyundai, Subaru, Kia: New models such as CUV “Kona”, CUV “Ascent” and SUV “Telluride” increased year on year.
Volkswagen (VW): Sales increased for mid-size passenger cars “Jetta” and CUV “Atlas”.
