Current status of Europe and 4G networks:

Three European countries including Belgium:

It turned out that the current communication standard “4G” network is maintained only for Chinese products.

In some major European countries, Chinese products account for more than 50% of the market share.

Strand Consult Survey:

Danish research firm Strand Consult revealed its market share made in China on June 30.

EU market share made in China:

Traditionally, telecommunications companies have identified equipment manufacturers, but the EU market share has not been disclosed.

Strand has calculated this number based on interviews with relevant sources and over 100 European telecommunications companies.

Belgium,
Malta,
Cyprus,
3 countries use Chinese products for all 4G equipment.

Germany: Share made in China reached 57%,
Spain and Italy: Chinese market share is over 50%.
UK: 40% share made in China,
France: Chinese market share is 25%.

Transition to 5G network:

Strand estimates it will cost $3.5 billion across Europe to replace Chinese equipment with non-Chinese equipment in the move to 5G networks.

“This represents 14 months of the total European wireless network funding, a small sum for Europe and the world,”

Understanding the Market for 4G RAN in Europe:

Share of Chinese and Non-Chinese Vendors in 102 Mobile Networks

The new report Understanding the Market for 4G RAN in Europe: Share of Chinese and Non-Chinese Vendors in 102 Mobile Networks, is one of a series of reports about cybersecurity and China.

Given the European Union’s 5G security toolbox, there is focus on the use of equipment from Chinese government affiliated firms Huawei and ZTE.

Unfortunately, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications and national telecom authorities, which normally gather relevant information for reporting comparisons across countries, have opted not to make an analysis of the equipment used by European mobile operators.

However, Strand Consult has conducted the analysis.

With its new report Understanding the Market for 4G RAN in Europe:

Share of Chinese and Non-Chinese Vendors in 102 Mobile Networks,

Strand Consult brings much-needed transparency and facts to the discussion on the use of Chinese equipment in European telecom networks.

This report,

the first of its kind, describes the respective amounts of equipment from Huawei, ZTE, and non-Chinese vendors in European mobile networks and the share of such in equipment in the 4G Radio Access Network (RAN).

Here are the highlights from the report.
