Huawei 5G Products: Recruitment Issues

The United States has repeatedly warned European countries not to use Huawei 5G products.

However, the United States’ move to block major allies from using Huawei has failed.

January 28: UK Government: Limited Acceptance

On January 28, the British government limitedly allowed Huawei’s participation in 5G, albeit under close scrutiny.

February 14: German Government: Same as UK

At the Security Conference on February 14-16, Secretary of State Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Esper repeatedly warned, but Germany seems to imitate the United Kingdom.

Germany has trade interests with China.

China seems to “threat threaten to restrict German car imports unless Germany uses Huawei.”

It is not hard to imagine Merkel as “one of the reasons Germany accepted Huawei for fear of Chinese retaliation.”

European participants have expressed skepticism in response to Secretary of Defense Esper’s warning.

Do you subsidize Nokia and Ericsson?
What to do instead of using Huawei?

Problem: Part 1

A major cause of the US-Europe conflict is that “Huawei offers the lowest-priced equipment.

Currently Huawei’s competitors are Nokia and Ericsson in Europe.

However, both companies are struggling with “low price and R & D competition with Huawei”.

Problem: Part 2

For the past two decades, Huawei has provided telecommunications equipment to Europe.

However, the United States has not provided clear evidence that “Huawei has obtained sensitive information.”

Problem: Part 3 (the most fundamental problem)

“With the next generation core technology of 5G, the United States is completely behind China.”

If the United States has technology comparable to Huawei, it is likely that allies in Europe have adopted US technology.

The U.S. hasn’t been able to offer the technology to compete with Huawei right now.

This is the background.
