Belgium 5G: 5G / RAN of two major telecommunications companies: Nokia and Ericsson adopted

Belgian Telecom Leader: Proximus

On October 9, it announced that it had selected Nokia, Finland, as a supplier of wireless network access (RAN) equipment for the construction of domestic 5G.
Conventional: Use Huawei
Both Proximus and Orange have used the RAN equipment of Huawei, a major Chinese telecommunications equipment company.
Both companies plan to renovate their existing facilities by 2023.
Future: Replaced by Nokia
The existing 2G, 3G and 4G equipment will be replaced with Nokia’s as well as 5G equipment.
Luxembourg: Replaced by Nokia
Regarding Orange, it announced that it will also procure RAN equipment in Luxembourg from Nokia.
RAN sharing:
Proximus and Orange agreed to share RAN in the future in July 2019.
This time, both companies have selected Nokia.
It is expected to have a positive effect on both cost and technology.
Belgian National Security Council:
Selection of 5G-related equipment suppliers
In June 2020, the Belgian National Security Council decided to impose strict security standards to prevent unauthorized access.
