ASEAN: 4 countries, car sales in August: positive for 4 consecutive months

4 major ASEAN countries: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam

Sales in 4 countries in August: (See Appendix Table 1)

Calculated from automobile statistics (Note) of each country.

Sales in four countries in August decreased by 26.5% from the same month of the previous year to 178,561 units.

The year-on-year rate is still negative.
It has been recovering for 4 consecutive months from a 79.6% decrease in April.
Exceeded 177,535 units in March (see attached figure)

The total sales volume of the four major ASEAN countries from January to August was 1,211,048 units, down 37.5% from the same period of the previous year.

Malaysia:

The year-on-year rate of increase has increased for the third consecutive month.

Thailand and Indonesia: Exports

The total number of automobile exports in August decreased by 39.3% from the same month of the previous year to 71,596 units.

Ministry of Commerce of Thailand: Passenger car export value

For Australia: 4.2 billion baht, down 57.4% year-on-year

For Japan: 4.1 billion baht, 5.5 times the same month last year

For China: 3.7 billion baht, 4.9 times the same month last year

Sales to Japan and China increased significantly.

Indonesia:

It has recovered from a 76.0% decrease in May from the same month of the previous year.

In August, it decreased by 8.2 points from the previous month to 14,194 units, down 61.1%.

4 ASEAN countries: August production

August production recovered to 40% year-on-year decrease.

It decreased by 39.4% from the same month of the previous year to 219,865 units.

Thailand :

Production has been gradually recovering since April.
In August, it decreased by 29.5% to 117,253 units, exceeding 100,000 units for the first time since March.

Indonesia:

In August, due to the effects of large-scale social restrictions, it continued to decrease by 70% from the same month of the previous year.
