TOWARD THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUANTUM KNIFE
QST has started a project
to develop the next generation heavy ion radiotherapy machine, called as “Quantum Knife”.It will be a very compact machine placed inside the hospital building.
The present injector accelerator
will be replaced by the laser driven ion accelerator and the synchrotron will be much more compact using the superconducting technology.It also adopts the multi-ion irradiation method to improve the tumor control, which uses not only the carbon beam but also multiple ion beams (He, C, O, Ne).
