AIST: a gene that creates myocardium – Tbx 6 is newly discovered

AIST has discovered a gene Tbx6 that directly induces cardiac mesoderm cells from fibroblasts.

First, we introduced Tbx6 into pluripotent stem cells such as mouse ES cells and human iPS cells.

Next, without using humoral factors,  prepare cardiac mesoderm cells that can grow efficiently.

Based on this,  succeeded in inducing myocardial cells and vascular cells.

Our research results can be applied to regenerative medicine of various heart diseases such as myocardial infarction and dilated cardiomyopathy.

The results of this research will be published on “Cell Stem Cell” with August 9, 2018 (0:00 am Japan time).
