Maritime Tech Safety Institute: New AUV “Hoverin” released – Automatic avoidance of obstacles

Maritime Technology Safety Research Institute:

realized the world’s first technology to investigate marine mineral resources such as submarine hydrothermal deposits at low cost and high efficiency (speed several times higher than conventional).

Hovering type AUV: “Hoverin”

4 navigational AUVs: Investigate promising waters with water depth of 2,000 m at the same time

1 hovering type AUV: offshore repeater (multiple AUV controller of semi-submersible type)

developed and produced.

The hovering type AUV to be released this time is named “Hoverin”.

Sensing and autonomous control technology:

Since it has a highly accurate aircraft position control function, it has features such as it can obtain an optical image with high resolution by approaching the seabed of complicated terrain.

In order to achieve approach to the ocean floor, it is necessary to advance the target route while precisely avoiding obstacles at the seabed.

For that purpose sensing technology and autonomous aircraft motion control technology were developed.
