AUV: KHI established local subsidiary in Aberdeen, England – Robot arm for pipeline inspection

In February, announced the establishment of “Kawasaki Subsea” as AUV business base in Scotland Aberdeen in the north of the UK.

Combining the company’s submarine and industrial robot technology,  developing AUV with the world’s first robotic arm for submarine pipeline inspection.

We are planning to launch the market planned for 2020.

It is based in Aberdeen City which is a cluster of marine industries at the front line base of the North Sea oil field.

Local corporation:

The capital is scheduled to be 350,000 pounds (about 50 million yen), and Kawasaki invests the whole amount.

We plan to manufacture, sell, and after-sales AUV.

Last year, we conducted a demonstration experiment of AUV with robot arm at Scottish Fort William Test Site in Scotland.

Ocean Research and Development Organization (JAMSTEC, Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa):

In January this year, JAMSTEC ordered the company to develop ‘deep ocean terminal’ for charging on the ocean floor and data communication with the ground.
