Japan Team Finds Cheap, Eco-Friendly Method to Make Ammonia
Tokyo, April 25
A group of Japanese researchers said Thursday they have, in a world first, made ammonia from nitrogen gas and water under ordinary conditions,
an achievement that is expected to lead to the development of efficient systems for the cheap and eco-friendly production of the promising energy source, for a more sustainable society.
Details of the research project were published online by British scientific journal Nature.
Currently, ammonia is synthesized from nitrogen and hydrogen gases under the so-called Haber-Bosch process.
It is used as a key ingredient of nitrogen fertilizer, which is indispensable to mass food production, as well as a material for various chemical products.
