Germany: Acceleration of domestic factories for EV: Mercedes, Ford, BMW

-German car maker shifts to BEV, reorganizes domestic factory development-

Mercedes-Benz:

On March 5, the Stuttgart Unterturckheim plant, which was established in 1904, will be converted to EV.

Unter Turckheim Factory:

Reduced research and manufacturing of engines, transmissions, wheel shafts, etc. for internal combustion engines.
Increase research and manufacturing of electric vehicle drives and research and production of storage batteries.

Storage battery:

At the existing research facility at the Unterturckheim factory
In addition to expanding research and development of storage batteries
A new factory for small-scale production of LIB cells has also been established.
The operation is scheduled to start in 2023.

Battery system:

For S-class BEV “EQS” from 2021
From 2022, for PHVs
The storage battery system is expected to be produced at the Unterturckheim plant.

Ford, US:

Cologne factory in North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany.

In late February, it will invest $ 1 billion to make the Cologne plant a research and development and manufacturing base for EVs for Europe.

Ford Cologne Factory:

From 2023, BEVs are expected to be produced at the Cologne plant base.
By 2026, vehicles sold in Europe will be BEVs or PHVs.
From 2030, all plans will be BEV only.

BMW Munich Factory:

In November 2020, proceed with the transition to BEV.

The company announced that it will spend a total of 400 million euros to build a new assembly line at its Munich plant.
