EV cooling power consumption: Toray realizes 30% cut!

EV cooling power consumption: Toray realizes 30% cut!

-Nano-laminated film demonstrates heat shielding against infrared rays-

-Supports 5G communication for autonomous driving with high radio wave transparency-

We will deliver a summary report from information disclosed by Toray Industries, Inc.

Toray Industries, Inc.:

It exhibits transparency comparable to glass

and heat shielding against infrared rays from the sun.

Toray has created a high heat insulation film for next-generation mobility.

High heat insulation film:

By applying this film to EVs,

the high heat shielding effect will reduce cooling power consumption.

Furthermore, we have demonstrated that it is compatible with 5G communication

for autonomous driving due to its high radio wave transparency.

Nano-laminated film PICASUS®:

Toray has launched PICASUS®,

a nano-laminated film made by stacking polymer layers.

With nano-layering technology,
the thickness is precisely controlled at the 1nm level.
We achieved both high transparency and heat shielding,
which were difficult with conventional technology.
We have developed an innovative highly heat-shielding nano-laminated film.

Nano-laminated film PICASUS:

This film is mounted on the EV windshield.

Cooling power consumption during driving in summer can be reduced by 30%.

We have demonstrated that the cruising range can be improved by approximately 6%.

Improving 5G communication radio wave transparency:

In order to support 5G communication,

it is necessary to improve radio wave transparency.

Conventional metal sputter glass:

Exhibits great heat insulation performance in EVs, etc.

However, in 5G communication,

there was a problem with radio wave transparency.

This heat shield film:

The nano-laminated film PICASUS does not use metal

in addition to its excellent heat shielding performance.

Therefore, it has high permeability to 5G communication radio waves.
