German Siemens Energy:
On September 6, a strategic partnership was formed with Toray on “green hydrogen” technology.
Collaborative development of green hydrogen production equipment.
We will also cooperate in building a global hydrogen supply network.
“Green Hydrogen” Technology:
It uses renewable energy to produce hydrogen without emitting carbon dioxide (CO2).
Electrolyte membrane for hydrogen extraction:
The two companies will jointly develop a type of device that uses an electrolyte membrane to extract hydrogen.
Toray
Supplying a unique electrolyte membrane “hydrocarbon-based electrolyte membrane” to Siemens Energy’s large-scale water electrolyzer.
Siemens Energy
Large-scale hydrogen production equipment is already on sale in Europe and elsewhere.
By using Toray’s electrolyte membrane, the efficiency and safety of the equipment will be improved.

Both companies to cooperate on R&D and Demonstration project adopted by Green Innovation Funding Program in Japan
Tokyo, Japan, September 6, 2021
Toray Industries, Inc.,
Siemens Energy K.K.,the Japanese subsidiary of Siemens Energy AG,
were adopted by the Green Hydrogen Project under the Green Innovation Funding Program organized
by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and
the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).The two companies will receive the funding
together with six other companies including the Yamanashi Prefectural Enterprises Bureau, and Tokyo Electric Power Company.
Siemens Energy and Toray
are jointly promoting the technological development and demonstration ofthe largest multi megawatt class PEM (PEM = Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) electrolysis in Japan with new membrane technology from Toray.
Toray
will provide Siemens Energy with Toray’s proprietary hydrocarbon electrolyte membranes.The two companies
will work together to promote the installation and demonstration of these membranes in Siemens Energy’s large industrial scale PEM water electrolyzer.
