Kinki University: Fisheries Research Institute
The Kinki University Fisheries Research Institute announced on Nov 1 that it has succeeded in “artificial hatching of Japanese eels that are threatened with extinction”.
Next to tuna is eel:
Kinki University has already succeeded in the world’s first complete bluefin tuna aquaculture.
Eel: artificial hatching
Finally, the eel breeding period has reached a maximum of 50 days.
It has already grown to about 2 cm in length and will aim for complete aquaculture and mass production in the future.
“Fertilized eggs artificially inseminated based on eggs and sperm” collected from cultured eels hatched from September to October.
Currently, more than 1000 fish are growing with food.
Eel: Full farming
It becomes a parent through a fry of “Shirasu eel” with a length of about 5-6 cm.
It is expected to take about 3 years to complete a “complete farming (cycle to lay and hatch the next generation)”.
