RIKEN / Tokyo Univ: ‘Superconducting Nonvolatile Memory’ realized – ‘ON / OFF’ by temporary current
RIKEN / Tokyo University Research Team succeeded in “Generating superconducting state by adding pulse current to compound IrTe 2 (Ir: iridium, Te: tellurium)” in cryogenic environment.
We also succeeded in “erasing generated superconducting state with different pulse current”.
In this way, Controlling the state of the substance by a different conventional method, the ‘superconducting nonvolatile memory’ function with the rewriting of superconducting – nonconducting state as ‘bit of information’ has been demonstrated.
Moreover, if circuits are constructed by combining ‘superconducting nonvolatile memory’, it becomes possible to repeatedly write and erase superconducting circuits of different patterns.
This research will be published in the online science magazine “Science Advances” in the United States (dated October 5: Japan time October 6).
