Japan · Tohoku Univ .: Develop breakthrough plant immunity enhancer – Prevent infection by plant pathogens
~ Historical challenge of plant immunity “Solving trade-offs between growth and defense”
【Point of presentation】
- About 10-15% of the world’s production foods are damaged by pathogen infection
- Plant immune hormones secreted against pathogenic bacterial infections activate immune responses at the expense of plant growth (“growth and defense tradeoffs”)
- The newly developed plant hormone receptor “Biased agonist (Note 1)” does not affect plant growth and activates only the pathogenic bacterial infection resistance
This result was announced at 6 pm on September 7 (Japan time) in the UK science magazine “Nature Communications”.
