Japan · Tohoku Univ .: Develop breakthrough plant immunity enhancer – Prevent infection by plant pathogens

~ Historical challenge of plant immunity “Solving trade-offs between growth and defense”

【Point of presentation】

  1. About 10-15% of the world’s production foods are damaged by pathogen infection
  2. Plant immune hormones secreted against pathogenic bacterial infections activate immune responses at the expense of plant growth (“growth and defense tradeoffs”)
  3. The newly developed plant hormone receptor “Biased agonist (Note 1)” does not affect plant growth and activates only the pathogenic bacterial infection resistance

This result was announced at 6 pm on September 7 (Japan time) in the UK science magazine “Nature Communications”.
