This project has been underway since 2010 in collaboration with researchers from domestic and overseas research institutions and universities.

Large cryogenic gravity wave telescope: KAGRA

Construction has been underway in Kamioka Town, Hida City, Gifu Prefecture.

The large-scale cryogenic gravity wave telescope KAGRA has been completed.

Conclusion of research agreement:

Concluded a research agreement between the three gravity wave telescopes.

Signed a research agreement with LIGO in the US and Virgo in Europe.

We will observe these three major gravitational wave telescopes simultaneously.

This makes it possible to more accurately identify the celestial body that generated the gravitational wave.

In April 2019, all equipment was brought in and installed.

Currently, we are working on adjustments to operate as a precision laser interferometer, tests and adjustments to increase detection sensitivity.

Gravity wave observation operation will start within 2019, and joint observation with LIGO and Virgo is scheduled.
