AIST:’Eruption of Nishinoshima’ is a reproduction of continental generation – analysis of lava
The Japan Ocean Research and Development Organization (“JAMSTEC”) collaborated with Professor Alexander RL Nichols of Canterbury University of New Zealand to prove that the eruption of Nishinoshima reproduced the generation of the continent .
We are collecting and analyzing the lava erupted on the seabed and land of Nishinoshima (Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4) of the Ogasawara Islands.
As a result, it revealed that the mantle immediately under Nishinoshima is melting and spewing the andesitic magma.
The andesitic magma is a unique magma that erupts only to the earth in the solar system.
It is closely related to the formation of the Earth’s surface layer as a material forming continental crust.
