China: “Hokuto” GPS, export to 120 countries: Location information linked with “5G”

China: GPS for Hokuto

China is developing GPS in opposition to the US GPS.

Senior officials of the Chinese government emphasized that the GPS-based location information system “Hokuto” was “globalized” as “GPS products have been exported to 120 countries.”

“Hokuto” is a location information system that China has independently developed to compete with the US GPS.

It started operation in 2012 and has been expanding its range worldwide since December last year.

Chinese government: spokeswoman Ran Se

At a press conference on December 27, spokeswoman Ran Se, the division responsible for the Beidou in the Chinese government, announced  launching two more satellites and complete the Beidou system by June.

The company exports GPS system-related products to 120 countries and territories, mainly in countries participating in the Belt and Road.

In the future, it plans to integrate Hokuto’s location information with the next-generation communication standard “5G” to expand its use.
