Mitsubishi Electric: Millimeter-wave band compatible, AESA for aircraft: 100Mbps communication in passenger aircraft

Mitsubishi Electric / NICT

Achieving “100Mbps large capacity, high speed communication in a passenger plane during flight”.

We have developed the technology of “the world’s thinnest class Ka band compatible / AESA with a thickness of 3 cm or less”.

Electronic scanning array antenna for aircraft: (AESA)

Regarding “Millimeter-wave band (V-band) / element technology capable of high-capacity, high-speed communication”, we succeeded in “Development of antenna elements by our company alone”.

Mitsubishi Electric / Tohoku University / Tohoku Microtech

Developed high frequency integrated circuits in collaboration with Tohoku University and Tohoku Microtech.

Millimeter wave compatible: AESA for aircraft

It can be installed from large to small aircraft regardless of the aircraft size.

Of course, it supports high latitude areas.

Realizing “high-speed Internet services such as on-demand video playback” on air routes around the world.

[Development Features]

1. High latitude region / World’s thinnest: AESA

Contributing to large capacity and high speed of satellite communication on various air routes and passenger aircraft

NICT antenna element and “Developed by our company / High frequency distribution / synthesis circuit / High frequency integrated circuit” are mounted on one printed circuit board.

2.Medium and small passenger aircraft / can be installed

World’s thinnest 3cm thick / Ka band compatible AESA technology

By using our developed / millimeter-wave-band hollow-structure antenna element, we have achieved good circular polarization characteristics and improved power efficiency even in the millimeter-wave band.

3.Supports low elevation direction (elevation angle 20 degrees) / beam scanning

Achieved “large-capacity, high-speed communication on various air routes around the world, including high-latitude regions”

the next deployment:

After conducting verification tests such as communication tests,
Ka-band AESA commercialized after 2023
Millimeter-wave AESA commercialized after 2027
