World Radio Communications Conference: (WRC-19)

We have developed a millimeter-wave wireless communication module that operates in the “66-71 GHz band, which has been newly specified as a frequency for 5G”.

We obtained a license from the Experimental Testing Bureau and started various communication experiments in the actual field.

This frequency band is already licensed as a license-free frequency band in the United States.

WRC-19:

It has been newly identified as an allocatable frequency band for 5G worldwide.

We started field and communication experiments in this frequency band early.

We will clarify its characteristics and effective usage patterns.

Samples of module equipment provided:

The module equipment applied to this experiment test station operates at 57 to 71 GHz.

60GHz millimeter wave wireless communication module,
An SDK (Software Development Kit) with a network processing unit connected
Samples are now available.

SDK (Software Development Kit):

The SDK functions as a millimeter wave wireless router.

You can check the communication characteristics by connecting to an external network device.

In addition, you can use the SDK commands to check detailed information about the wireless link such as signal-to-noise ratio and modulation method settings.

Millimeter wave wireless communication module:

In addition to the same experimental testing station as this time,

Explanation of terms

Backhaul: A relay line that connects the base station with the carrier’s backbone network

Access point (AP): Communicates with a wireless terminal “, network connection device (base station)

Customer premises equipment (CPE): Communication equipment installed on the subscriber’s premises

V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything): Vehicle-to-vehicle communication, road-to-vehicle communication, communication between vehicles and objects

Millimeter-wave communication: Realizes high-speed communication in the millimeter-wave gigabit class

Current status of frequency band:

Use of a wide frequency band is one of the means for improving communication speed.

The frequency band currently used is the band called ultra-high frequency wave and centimeter wave.

Since these bands are divided and used for various purposes, it is not possible to secure a wide bandwidth.

For example,

Wi-Fi, 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands: (Refer to ① in the figure below)

The bandwidth is only less than 0.5GHz.

A wide frequency bandwidth can be secured because there are few millimeter waves and assigned services.

60GHz frequency band: (See (2) below)

Bandwidths of 9GHz in Japan and 14GHz in the US can be secured.

This wide bandwidth increases communication speed by orders of magnitude, enabling gigabit-class high-speed communication.
