JAXA: Atmospheric observation with artificial satellites and passenger planes:’Ibuki’ (GOSAT)

JAXA and ANA:

Started remote sensing joint research on atmospheric components in urban areas from artificial satellites and passenger planes.

JAXA:

Since 2009, the greenhouse gas observation technology satellite “IBUKI” (GOSAT) * 1 has been used.

We have captured the increase in greenhouse gases throughout the globe.

This study:

Bring JAXA observation equipment on board ANA passenger planes.

Observe the detailed concentration distribution of carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, etc. in major cities.

Greenhouse gas reduction:

First of all, the observation experiment started from the Tokyo (Haneda) -Fukuoka flight.

In the future, we will study urban greenhouse gas reduction measures and provide reduction effect evaluation data.

We aim to contribute to the “Paris Agreement * 2, which obliges countries around the world to take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
