On March 15, the “List of Japanese Companies Expanding into India (October 2020)” was created in collaboration with JETRO and others.
Number of Japanese companies expanding into India:
The number of 1,455 companies remained at the same level as the previous year (up one from the previous year).
Number of bases (see attached figure)
The number of locations decreased by 1.5% from the previous year (down 74 locations) at 4,948 locations, the second consecutive year of decline.
By state, Haryana has the highest number, and the top five states remain unchanged.
Number of Japanese companies operating by state: (See Appendix Table 1)
Haryana has the largest number with 412 companies,
250 companies in Maharashtra
220 companies in Karnataka
200 companies in Tamil Nadu
The Delhi Territory was followed by 145 companies.
There is no change in the top five states.
These five states accounted for about 85% of all Japanese companies operating in the country.
Especially Haryana:
Good access to the airport and the capital city of Delhi, centered on the emerging city of Gurgram.
It is a large concentration area of Japanese companies because of the enhancement of food and housing infrastructure for Japanese people.
By industry: (See Appendix Table 2)
The manufacturing industry accounted for about half at 49.3%.
Transport machinery and equipment accounted for the largest percentage at 10.7%.
5.8% of the chemical industry
Electrical machinery and equipment is 5.3%,
Metal products followed at 4.5%.
In the industry next to the manufacturing industry,
Wholesale business 12.9%,
Information and communication industry is 5.9%,
Transportation and postal services account for 4.9%
The big trend hasn’t changed.
