Hitachi: Developed Direct Electricied Wheel: Motor, Inverter, Brake

Hitachi: Developed Direct Electricied Wheel: Motor, Inverter, Brake

-The cruising range will increase by 20%-

Hitachi Astemo:

On September 30, we developed an “EV system in which the motor is directly connected to the tire wheel.”

The drive mechanism that transmits force can be simplified.
Energy loss is smaller than that of general EV.
The cruising range is extended by up to 20%.

New EV drive system:

Hitachi will grow into a powerful technology and option as an EV drive system.

The timing of mass production has not been disclosed.

It worked jointly with Hitachi Astemo, a subsidiary that jointly invests with Honda.

In-wheel direct drive system for EV: Compact and lightweight

Hitachi
Hitachi Astemo

On September 30, it announced that it has developed a direct drive system “Direct Electricied Wheel” for EVs.

Integrated inside the wheel,
Motors, inverters, brakes,
Compact and lightweight direct drive system

In the future, both companies will proceed with full-scale research toward implementation.

Direct Electricied Wheel:

Direct Electricied Wheel has achieved world-class power density and brake integration.

It was developed as a new in-wheel motor.

World’s top power density:

The developed motor can transmit the high driving force required for EV driving to the wheels.

By reducing the weight of the motor, we have achieved the world’s top power density = 2.5kW / kg.

Successful system miniaturization:

To the motor
Inverter and brake integrated,
The weight inside the wheel was suppressed.

Without major changes to existing structures such as suspension

It can be mounted inside the wheel.
