COVID-19: Tosoh to develop antibody test reagents: Yokohama City Univ, collaboration with Kanto Kagaku

Tosoh:

On May 21, announced that it will develop a reagent for antibody testing to check for new coronavirus infection.

Antibodies are created in the body of people infected with the new corona by the action of immunity.

We aim to put this reagent into practical use this winter with a reagent that can measure the presence and amount of antibodies with a small amount of blood with high accuracy.

New Corona: Reagent for antibody test

Tosoh manufactures reagents and equipment used to test thyroid function.

Utilizing know-how in reagent development for the new corona.
Tosoh can measure the amount of antibodies with existing test equipment.

As a reagent raw material, a type of protein called “antigen” derived from the new corona is used.
The policy is to receive antigens in collaboration with Yokohama City University and Kanto Kagaku.

Competitors:

If the amount of antibody increase can be measured with a test reagent, it can be used to verify the effect of the new corona vaccine.

As for antibody test reagents, several companies in Japan and overseas, such as Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche, are involved.

However, it is said that there are few “reagents that can measure the amount of antibodies with high precision”.

For detection of viral antibodies: Development of test reagents

Tosoh started development of a test reagent for detecting SARS-CoV-2 virus antibody as a dedicated reagent for our fully automated chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay device AIA®-CL.

Monotest & Freeze Drying Technology:

We are advancing the development of rapid and highly sensitive test reagents based on the monotest and freeze-drying technology, which is a feature of our immunoassay test reagents.

Fully automatic equipment: AIA®-CL is used

Combine with AIA®-CL series which is a fully automatic device.

This device can provide a simple and high-throughput measurement environment.

Tosoh: Development record

We have developed a unique monotest cup / fully automated immunoassay test system.

We have developed measurement reagents for over 60 inspection items.
