Tokyo Institute of Technology: split-finger falling mechanism: Supercomputer analysis
Tokyo Institute of Technology:
Professor Takayuki Aoki’s group:
When a hardball baseball is thrown
By rotation of the sphere and seams
In what direction the force is applied
We analyzed it with a supercomputer.
Results of supercomputer analysis:
With split-finger
The air resistance on the upper side of the sphere is large,
The resistance on the lower side is reduced.
It turns out that a downward force is applied.
It was also confirmed that the lower the number of rotations of the sphere, the greater the downward force.
We compared a straight ball with the same speed as a split-finger at 151 km / h.
The result is that the split-finger drops 30 centimeters.
