Japan supercomputer: Fugaku cooling equipment: Fujikura liquid cooling unit

Japanese supercomputer:

July 20, 2020

Fujikura:

It was announced that Fujikura’s cold plate was adopted as a cooling component for the supercomputer “Fugaku” jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu.

“Futaku”:

World ranking competing for supercomputer calculation speed

1st in 4 major divisions

TOP500,

HPCG (High Perform Conjugate Gradient),

HPL-AI,

Graph500,

It is the world’s highest level supercomputer, ranked first in four major categories.

High-performance liquid cooling unit:

The high-performance CPU used in “Fugaku” produces a lot of heat.

Our cold plate is used for space-saving and efficient cooling technology.

Cold plate:

Micro channel fin structure (Fig. 1)

This cold plate is a high-performance liquid cooling unit that uses a microchannel fin structure.

1/3 or less size (Fig. 2)

The size is 1/3 or less compared to the air-cooled cooling unit.

Multiple times cooling performance:

It has several times the cooling performance.

As a result of this performance being highly evaluated, it has been adopted for “Fugaku” this time.

In the field of thermal technology products such as this cold plate, we will work on development for higher performance.
