Fujitsu / RIKEN start shipping the next supercomputer ‘Fugaku’: 150,000 CPUs per rack

Developed by Fujitsu in collaboration with RIKEN (location: Kobe, Hyogo).

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is promoting aiming to start sharing from 2021 to 2022.

Shipment of the super computer “Fugaku” started on December 2nd.

Super computer ‘Fugaku’:

Of the first to sixth units, the first six units were completed and the first unit was shipped this time.

One computer rack has more than 150,000 high-performance CPUs.

Shipment of “Takedake”, the successor of “K computer”, began at a factory in Ishikawa Prefecture.

In August of this year, the supercomputer “K computer” ended operation.

As a successor to the K computer, RIKEN and Fujitsu have been jointly developing ‘Fugaku’ .

This time, the first six units from Unit 1 to Unit 6 have been completed.

Fujitsu:

“It is expected to achieve the world’s top calculation speed with one-third of the conventional power consumption.”
