South Africa (NAAMSA): New car sales in 2018-2 years decline

South African Automobile Manufacturers Association (NAAMSA): (See Table 1)

New car sales in 2018 decreased by 1.0% from the previous year to 552,226 units due to the economic slowdown and other factors.

it decreased for the first time in two years.

In 2019, NAAMSA forecasts sales volume to increase 0.8%.

Passenger car sales by manufacturer:

The VW Group is 84,288 units, an increase of 4.1% over the previous year, and is the top in the previous year.

Second-place Toyota, 70,170 vehicles, up 2.0% from the previous year.

The 3rd place is now at 32,288 units, up 2.5% from the previous year.

Fourth-place Ford, 26,673 units down 28.5% from the previous year.

Japanese manufacturer:

22,356 units for Nissan (up 21.4%)

14,091 Mazdas (up 9.7%)

11,757 units for Suzuki (37.8% increase)

Honda’s 7,530 (4.8% increase)

While new car sales decreased , the performance of Japanese automakers was remarkable.

Toyota maintained its top spot for 39 consecutive years, reaching 24.2%, up 1.3 points from the previous year.
