India (SIAM): December 2019 Car sales: SUVs continue to grow significantly

On January 10, we released the car statistics for December 2019.
Passenger vehicle sales (including SUVs and vans) decreased 1.2% year-on-year to 235,786 units.
Following the previous month, it decreased slightly.
By category: Sales volume
General passenger cars: 142,126 units, down 8.4% year-on-year
Vans: 8,408 units, down 53.4% year-on-year
SUVs: Up 30.0% year-on-year and up double digits from January and October.
Major manufacturers: Sales volume (see Table 2)
In December 2019, five of the 13 major manufacturers had positive growth.
1st place: Maruti Suzuki increased by 2.5% year-on-year to 122,784 units
3rd place: Mahindra, 15,686 units up 3.9% year-on-year
2nd place: Hyundai, 37,953 units, down 9.8% year-on-year
Kia sold 4,645 units, down from 14,005 units in November (entering the Indian market in September 2019)

Suzuki’s Eltiga,
Modern “venue”,
MG motor “Hector”,
Renault’s “Tribar” etc.
Demand for small SUVs remained strong.
