Oahu, Hawaii: Railway Revival for the First Time in 76 Years!

Elevated railway “Skyline”:

Part of the “Skyline” section (17km) was completed on June 30th.

It is the first vehicle in the United States to adopt an automated driving system.

It connects the east and west of Oahu, Hawaii. Plans call for gradual expansion to connect Honolulu International Airport and Honolulu City Hall.

Honolulu Rapid Rail Transportation Authority (HART):

The railroad was discontinued in 1947. It will be the first time in 76 years that a passenger train will operate on Oahu.

Emphasizing that the opening of the elevated railroad is “historic,” it will bring big changes to Hawaii.

Skyline route map:

Plans call for a total of 19 stations, 30 kilometers, to be connected to East Kapolei and Civic Center at Pearl Harbor in 40 minutes.

Construction began in 2014, and 60% of the construction has been completed so far.

Hitachi Group:

Hitachi Rail will undertake vehicle manufacturing and signaling systems.

A total of 80 cars of 20 trainsets will be delivered in 12 years.

A single train can carry up to 800 passengers.

It has the transportation capacity of 10 municipal buses. It is also possible to put a surfboard!
