COVID-19: Africans oppose discrimination against China: Guangdong Guangzhou / Little Africa
COVID-19: African
[April 15]
Africans have been labeled and discriminated against over the new Chinese coronavirus.
In response to this problem, African countries have repulsed.
Guangdong Guangzhou / Little Africa:
The problem was triggered by a Nigerian-rich neighborhood in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
A new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) cluster (a group of infected people) has occurred.
Nigeria: Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama
On April 14, he told the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, “I saw a picture of a Nigerian in need of street life. It would be painful for us in our country.”
The Nigerian government said the situation was “unacceptable” and called on Chinese authorities to take immediate action.
African Union (AU):
On April 11, he expressed “extreme concern” about the situation in Guangzhou and called on the Chinese government to take immediate corrective action.
20 African countries:
Focusing on Africans, China’s mass inspection / isolation measures equate to “racism.”
It has created a joint letter to protest against the Chinese government.
The draft says that these measures are “obvious human rights abuses.”
Guangzhou city authorities:
Eight people who were diagnosed with a new coronavirus infection announced that they were staying in “Little Africa” / Yuexiu Ward.

Africans in Guangzhou face special scrutiny amid coronavirus-fueled xenophobia
So far in Guangzhou’s Yuexiu District,
there have been just 16 confirmed cases of foreigners from African countries with COVID-19.
But for the black community there,
what’s more terrifying than the virus itself is the rising tide of discrimination driven by both
coronavirus-fueled xenophobia and
deep-rooted prejudice
against black people in China.
On April 6, Sanheli, a neighborhood in Yuexiu that is known as “Little Africa”
due to its sizable population of African migrants, became the subject of a social media frenzy after a since-deleted Weibo post claiming that Yaotai village, located in the neighborhood,
would be completely locked down for 14 days.
“Some specific groups of people will be targeted for testing during this period of time,” the post read.
