COVID-19: Transmission of Avigan to Iran: Rohani Presidential Telephone Conference

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:

On May 5, had a 25-minute phone conversation with Iran’s President Rohani over the new coronavirus response.

Prime Minister Abe has decided to support Iran through an international organization.

“Avigan”: Granted free to Iran

The president thanked him for informing him that the anti-influenza drug “Avigan” will be provided to Iran free of charge.

The two leaders have consulted since the meeting in Tokyo in December 2019.

The Iranian side called for discussing the response to the new coronavirus. It is rare for Japan-Iran summits to talk by telephone.

The Japanese government will start to provide Avigan to each country after the holidays.

It will be provided to Iran under the framework of emergency grant aid.

Iran: Infection status

As Iran became more widespread, Johns Hopkins totaled more than 6,000 dead by May 5.

The Prime Minister mourned the deaths in Iran.

The two leaders agreed that they would work closely together to prevent the spread of infection.
