COVID-19:
Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, demand for heart-lung machines is increasing.
Terumo, Japan’s largest company, plans to double the production of the ECMO heart-lung machine.
Nippon Terumo:
Terumo, a major medical device, accounts for 70% of the domestic market share of ECMO and produces more than a hundred units annually.
To respond to demand due to the spread of infection, the company has established a production increase system and aims to supply more than 100 vehicles within a few months.
Currently, a factory in Shizuoka Prefecture produces ECMO.
We have already begun preparations, such as procuring more parts, and we will start operations on the weekend to speed up production.
