COVID-19: New ECMO to be developed and introduced to the field: National Cardiovascular Research Center

-Expected to reduce the burden on patients and healthcare professionals-

Artificial heart-lung machine “ECMO”:

With the new coronavirus, ECMO is also said to be “the last step in treatment for the most severely ill patients.”

National Cardiovascular Research Center:

The National Cardiovascular Research Center has developed an “improved new device that makes it difficult for blood clots and blood clots to form.”

It will be used in the medical field in the future.

Development of new equipment:

The device was developed by a group of the National Cardiovascular Research Center in Suita City, Osaka.

It is expected to reduce the burden on patients and healthcare professionals by eliminating the need to replace the device.

What is ECMO:

A device that temporarily substitutes for lung function by sending oxygen directly into the blood taken from the patient’s body.

Conventional ECMO:

All equipment must be replaced weekly,
If used for a long time, a blood clot may form inside the device and clog it.
New ECMO:

By devising the structure of the pump, there is no need to replace the device,
It is difficult for blood clots to form by applying a drug that makes it difficult for blood to clot on tubes.
