Realization of 40% compact size, and easy planning of ship’s engine room layout

Hitachi Zosen:

It contributes to the reduction of NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions from marine diesel engines.

We developed the second generation “Hitz High Pressure SCR Mk-II” of Marine SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction).

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction):

This is a technology that decomposes NOx into nitrogen and water by spraying urea water onto exhaust gas containing NOx and passing it through a NOx removal catalyst.

Conventional Ship SCR:

An evaporator that sprays urea water into the exhaust gas and evaporates it

A reactor for reacting exhaust gas sprayed with urea water with a NOx removal catalyst,

Of the two main components.

Mk-II developed this time:

No need for an evaporator, as the urea water spray / evaporation process is performed in the engine exhaust pipe.

Achieves about 40% compactness and easy planning of engine room layout.

It can be applied to various ship types.

Mk-II delivery results:

From ship engine licensor MAN Energy Solutions SE (Germany)

Acquired FTA (First Time Approval) of marine SCR system applied to marine engine for the first time in the world in 2014.

So far, we have received orders for a total of 37 machines.

IMO (International Maritime Organization):

Currently, the Third NOx Regulation * is implemented only in ECA (Emission Control Area) such as North America.

From January 1, 2021, the addition of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea to the ECA was adopted.
