Together with International Oil Development Teishi Co., Ltd. and Hitachi Zosen Co., Ltd., we are engaged in CO2 effective utilization technology development business.
Methanation technology: equipment completed
A test facility that synthesizes methane from carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen has been completed at the Koshijihara plant site of Nagaoka Mine (Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture).
In the future, after trial operation, various tests and continuous operation will be carried out until the end of 2019.
What is new technology methanation: Carbon recycling technology
The practical application of a technology called “methanation” that produces methane from CO2 as a raw material is currently attracting attention.
This technology synthesizes methane by reacting “CO2 discharged from a thermal power plant, separated and recovered” and “hydrogen generated by electrolysis of water” in a reaction vessel filled with catalyst.
This test facility:
Methane is produced by “synthesizes hydrogen produced by electrolysis of water” and “CO2 emitted during natural gas production at the Koshijihara Plant”.
This time, a structure suitable for “enlarging methane synthesis capacity” is applied.
This is the world’s first trial using CO2 separated and recovered in the office.
In the future, through various tests and continuous operation, technical issues such as optimization of the methane synthesis process will be evaluated and examined.
We aim to establish methanation technology, one of the carbon recycling technologies.
