NYK has succeeded in demonstrating automated navigation technology.
Aiming to realize “Manned Autonomous Ships” (Note 1), we will work to ensure safe operation and reduce labor load.
This demonstration experiment:
Cleared all items based on the “Provisional Guidelines for Proof Testing of Automated Ships” (International Maritime Organization: IMO).
This is the world’s first demonstration experiment based on international rules.
Automated operation: Outline of experiment
Equipped with an optimal navigation program (Note 4) on the large-sized car carrier IRIS LEADER (Note 3) with a gross tonnage of 70,826 tons.
The test was conducted from Shinsha (China) to Nagoya Port (September 14 to 17), and from Nagoya Port to Yokohama Port (September 19 to 20).
Sailing using the optimal navigation program intermittently, day or night, while maintaining the duty system of ordinary crew members.
